Security services company – what you should expect from them

If you are now at a place in your life where you need to hire security services or you need a security system installation, you obviously take your position very seriously and are therefore expecting a professional service. If you decide to get a video surveillance system or a commercial security camera installation for your property, you would want it to be setup by a reputable company. Whilst almost every company will advertise themselves as being professional this unfortunately isn’t always the case. They lower the standards of the industry so that customers no longer know what they should be guaranteed with a service. It is good to look the part but actions speak louder than words and when you are talking about security this is imperative. There are arguably 5 key areas which should be offered in a professional security service; Training, Safety, Communication, Vigilance and Licences. Here we will take a closer look into each of these areas to help you as a client understand what you should expect from a security service company.

Training

Having the correct training isn’t all about what’s on paper, it’s also to do with how they respond in real life situations. Security is not a one size fits all, it is a job that is unique to each client and as such you should expect a company to want to fully understand what they will be undertaking. The first sign of professionalism is to have someone or a team come to your property and assess the situation before taking on the job. They must speak to the client, understand the location and draw up a plan of action so that they can correctly respond to your needs.

Safety

Safety should be the number one priority of any security company and it is something they should be stressing to clients regularly. All of their strategies should focus on not only the safety and security of the client but also the public. It is the job of a security company to come in and advise the client on any flaws in their current security plans and suggest methods of implementing a superior strategy that maximises everyone’s safety.

Communication

Communication with the client is key and from the start, you should feel like the company is clear on what they will be providing. There should be contact between the client and company a long time before any commissioned work has begun to help forge a good relationship and understanding. If you feel like the security company isn’t communicating well with you; either you are having to chase them for answers or you feel like when you do speak to them you aren’t getting clear answers then it isn’t a good sign and is likely to continue in the future.

Vigilance

A lot of times people will hire security services not because they feel there is an immediate threat to themselves or their property but because they want security to act as a deterrent. Generally, the presence of a security guard on site will be enough to deter potential criminals, but this is not to suggest that absolute vigilance isn’t expected. Noticing small details is key such a personnel acting suspiciously, cars driving past one too many times, vehicles being parked in unusual places etc.

Licences

As with most professions, security requires training and licences to operate and when choosing a security company you should feel sure that they only hire individuals who are qualified. There are certain skills that as a client you should readily expect from your security such as physical intervention, CPR, conflict management to name a few. You should also feel comfortable in asking your security staff to show you their valid licences at any time.
